Garden Wedding, Istanbul

Brief

A wedding in a garden, in the open: ceremony, dinner, live music and dancing in one space, from daylight into night.

Constraint

A garden has no infrastructure. Everything carrying the ceremony arch, the light canopy and the stage had to be built from nothing; the build had to be finished before the guests arrived and invisible by evening.

Solution

Truss towers were raised by hand on the grass, the canopy was dressed with light curtains, the stage deck was set on its frame. The ceremony area was handed over with white drape and a flower-lined aisle. At night, under the same canopy, the davul and zurna and then the orchestra took the stage.

By the time the bride walked in, all that was left of the morning's tower was light.

Our role

Truss and rigging, light canopy, stage and sound, the build of the ceremony area and the strike. The crew that raised the tower in the morning was at the lighting desk at night.

Outcome

The walk down the aisle, the first dance under the canopy, the cake; the build showed in none of them.
